Taylor, Andrea

About the artist
Andrea holds a Masters in Fine Art (Visual Art) from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Andrea is a prolific artist. She has a mixed media practice which centres around drawing and painting, but includes sculpture, video, analog photography and printmaking. She works mainly out of her studio in Vancouver’s 1000 Parker building. In 2017 Andrea completed an intensive residency at Banff Centre and a collaborative artist residency at Anvil Centre. Andrea has had two solo shows in Vancouver, at Back Gallery Project and at Malaspina Printmakers, both in 2016. In 2017 her work was shown at Toronto Art Fair with Back Gallery Project. She completed a one month collaborative drawing residency, exhibition & artist talk in 2015 with Margery Theroux at Miranda Arts Project Space in Port Chester, NY. Andrea teaches in Continuing Studies at Emily Carr University of Art & Design. Andrea attempts to access the power of the feminine embodied experience using drawing, painting, early photographic methods, video and sculpture. She thinks of the abstract figures in her works as powerful feminine sculptural shapes and as time travellers. Works are created for her own exploration and, equally, to engage in conversations with other works and with the body and mind of the viewer.
