About the artistChrissy K. Cheung, grew up in the Toronto area, showed a serious interest in art from the age of seven. She moved to Montréal in 1996 to study at Concordia University, and completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2000. In May 1999, she was chosen to do an industrial design internship in Milan, Italy, with designer Alejandro Ruiz. Upon graduation, Cheung moved to Calgary. In early 2005, she completed an artist residency at the Banff Centre, resulting in a solo show, Improv Paintings, at the Other Gallery. Later that year, Cheung moved back to Montréal. In 2008, she was accepted into the Emerging Artists Viewing Program at the Drawing Center in New York. Cheung has been reviewed in many publications, including Westmount Magazine, Akimbo, Now Magazine (Toronto) and featured on the CityShow on CityTV Calgary. Cheung has exhibited in over 50 selected exhibitions throughout Canada, including at the Osheaga Festival in Montréal as well as a major 2010 large-scale painting exhibit, Structured Abstractions, at the former 2 of 2 Gallery, Toronto. Her solo exhibition, "Dessins contemporains" at the Maison de la Culture Plateau Mont-Royal in 2016 resulted in art acquisitions by Ville de Montréal for their Collection. Her large-scale paintings can be viewed at 1, Place Ville-Marie in downtown Montréal. Chrissy co-wrote the article, One of a kind: The Experience of Painting in the Culture Crawl guide. Cheung plays an active role in curating the artist collective PAINTER8.
