About the artistI am a Vancouver based filmmaker, visual artist, educator, and spoon carver. I've been working with wood in one way or another since I was a little boy. Over the past couple of years I've been carving green wood culled from local trees, fallen in windstorms or pruned by the city. Spending part of each day working with hand tools is an antidote to city life. I make two or three spoons a week, while bowls take much longer. I carve in Cherry, Apple, Alder, and Birch. The final objects are given a knife finish, and coated with a mixture of bee's wax, carnuba and mineral oil. A well cared-for spoon can last a lifetime.
